Chen Liquan, born on March 29, 1940 in Nanchong, Sichuan Province, is an expert in solid-state ionics and energy materials, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, a researcher at the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the technical director and doctoral supervisor of Beijing StarHeritage Power Supply Co.
Chen Liquan graduated from the Physics Department of the University of Science and Technology of China in 1964, and entered the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; he studied in the Solid State Institute of the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science in West Germany from 1976 to 1978; he set up China's first Solid State Ionics Laboratory in the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1980; and he was appointed as a member of the “863” program in 1987, the “7th Five-Year Plan”. “In 1987, he became the chief leader of the energy storage materials (lithium polymer batteries) project of the “Seventh Five-Year Plan”; in 1999, he took the lead in the establishment of Beijing Xingheng Power Supply Company Limited; in 2001, he was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
Chen Liquan took the lead in developing lithium-ion batteries in China, realized the industrialization of lithium-ion batteries, discovered the first signs of 70K superconductivity, developed liquid nitrogen temperature zone superconductors and announced the material composition for the first time.
